ATTENTION VEB PLASTICART & EAST GERMAN/DDR MILITARY AVIATION COLLECTORS! |
|
This model dates from 1980, but was recently assembled by me, straight from the box. This is one of Plasticart's first finely detailed model kits. The Mil Mi-4 kit was originally produced in the 1960s, and stayed in their catalog up through the 1990s when Plasticart became Master Modell. |

The Mil Mi-4 was the second Mil project to enter large-scale production. Several thousand have been built in both military and civil configuration. The prototype was first flown in 1952, but wasn't seen by the public until August 1953. Plasticart chose to model the military transport variant with round windows and central gondola, but the markings indicate either East German government or industrial service. The box art probably tells its story accurately; some sort of industrial freight support. |

The original Mil Mi-4 kits included a vial of red enamel paint for the upper fuselage marking. Later, Plasticart included on the decal sheet, a one-piece wrap-around red decal, to place across the top. I tried using this decal to stay true to the kit’s „stock“ appearance, but the decal proved absolutely impossible to work with. So instead, I painted the top with red Tamiya enamel with white cheatline. I think you will agree, the results are far superior to the decal method (I don't know what Plasticart was thinking!) |
