A fully assembled VEB Plasticart 1/100 scale Sud Aviation Caravelle in Air France markings. |

VEB Plasticart was an East German model and toy manufacturer in the late 50s to early 90s. They produced fantastic scale replicas of Soviet commerical and military aicraft. They also prodcuced a half-dozen Western aircraft as well including the Caravelle, Comet 4, 727, Trident, DC-8, and Mercure. The caravelle was one of their first kits proudced in the early 1960s. It is characteristic of the early KVZ kits: no display stand, plasticene nose weight, smooth surfaces with no panel or rivet detail. |

This particular kit was assembled by me straight from the box in accordance with the original instructions. The decals had become yellowed with age, and were very brittle. I was unable to salvage the fuselage striping, so I painted it - looks fantastic! All other markings are the original decals. I coated them with Testors clear acrylic to preserve them indefinately. |

The Caravelle was one of the most modeled civil airliners of the sixties. Airfix, FROG, Lindberg, Revell, Faller, Heller, and Plasticart were the most popular examples. They were all of various scales, and none of them were very detailed. Plasticart's however is nice because of its decent size. It measures 12.5 inches in length; a 13.5 inch wingspan; and is 3.5 inches high. |
